The homilies project was developed so that a congregation can engage in study and discussion of the lectionary when a Priest or Reader are not available to lead the service. The files include the gospel reading, details of the other readings for the week, the homily itself which can be read out loud, discussion points and the collect for the week. They are written by a variety of people, including our bishops and archdeacons, and they are intended to be used by lay leaders who are not authorised to preach.
St. Michael and All Angels is a vibrant, friendly and welcoming Church set in the beautiful Lincolnshire Wolds. We are both sacramental and missional in nature. Our aim is to share God's love to all that we encounter and to care for and serve our community, as Christ calls us to do.
We offer a variety of worship opportunities accommodating both lifelong Christians and those beginning on their faith journey. Our Service pattern reflects this desire, with God at the centre of all we do.
Established in 1993 St Michael and All Angels Church is currently located in the west wing of the former RAF Binbrook Sergeants Mess. Alongside our Worship area, the Church comprises of a number of rooms including our church charity shop, community store and ‘All Angels Tea Shop’.
During the pandemic St Michael and All Angels has been the centre of our very successful online worship for the Walesby and Barkwith groups of parishes. This enabled us to keep in touch with worshippers locally and further afield, even finding new people in unexpected places. As we return to more normal times and following the withdrawal of the Methodist church from Brookenby, we are now settled in to worshipping twice a month in Brookenby church, with a service of Holy Communion on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month. Prior to the pandemic we were operating our own pre-school church ‘Diddy Disciples@St Michaels’. This ran every Tuesday morning in term time. We intend to re-open as soon as it is safe and practicable to do so. More young people’s church is our vision.
St. Michael and All Angels is a Mission Church, in a deprived community. We fully embrace the five Marks of mission and look for opportunities to serve our local community. To that end, members of our church community run our church charity shop, Wednesday through to Saturday (10am until 2 pm), providing an excellent selection of pre-loved items such as clothing, household goods, toys and bric a brac, with all stock provided by the generous donations of the local community. Alongside the charity shop we operate ‘All Angels Tea Shop’, serving hot and cold food and drinks, and have a small community store supplying those everyday essentials. Overarching all we do is the opportunity to come and chat, meet new friends and find a friendly ear to share in the difficulties and joys of everyday life,
Brookenby itself, is the site of the former RAF Binbrook which operated from 1942-89. During World War 2 it hosted a squadron of the RAAF who suffered 1075 casualties during that conflict. The former married quarters serve as the residential accommodation for the village. However new housing is continually being added
With a population in excess of 500 adults, Brookenby is the largest parish in terms of population in the Walesby Group.
